about me
I am an experienced, culturally competent, bilingual (English/Spanish) psychotherapist. I have been in the helping profession for 20 years assisting people to make positive life changes. I worked in the public and non-profit sectors providing therapy to individuals with severe/persistent mental illness such as Schizophrenia, Bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, trauma, PTSD, among others.

Psychodynamic Therapy
Psychodynamic therapy explores unconscious thoughts/feelings, identifies underlying emotional conflicts, and explores defensive processes/mechanisms. I use this modality to analyze how a person's sense of self and self esteem have been affected by significant events and relationships of their past. The focus is to examine a person's internal experience and determine how this affects their daily functioning. Essentially, once a person is able to gain insight, awareness, and clarity through processing their personal narrative they begin to make connections as to why their life is negatively affected by certain people or situations.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT treatment focuses on how a person's thoughts influence their emotional, behavioral, and physiological reactions to situations that occur in their lives. I utilize CBT to help a person identify distressing thoughts and evaluate how realistic these thoughts are. As a person becomes aware of their thinking patterns and are able to evaluate them, they begin to feel better. CBT also helps with learning effective ways to problem solve, practice new skills, and set/achieve meaningful goals. I use different CBT techniques to assist people with developing insights that are essential in the treatment process while creating a healthier mindset.

Humanistic Therapy
Humanistic therapy focuses on a person's unique nature and emphasizes positive characteristics. I promote a whole person approach which tends to be more holistic rather than focusing on a single area of a person’s life. I use different types of humanistic therapy (logotherapy, existential therapy, narrative therapy, person-centered therapy) as a way to explore a person's strengths, potential for growth, and uniqueness. I use a viewpoint from the person's sense of self to identify positive traits/behaviors while helping them develop the ability to use their natural instincts and adaptive coping to discover inner peace, wisdom, growth, healing, and self-fulfillment.

Faith Integration
Religion, faith, and spirituality can be essential sources of strength and support. These virtues provide purpose, directive, and personal value. Studies have shown by enhancing spiritual practices a person can live a healthy emotional life and buffer the effects of physical, emotional, and mental stressors. I examine a person’s worldview and incorporate faith/spirituality to enhance their desire to live a more meaningful and purposeful life. I provide a safe space for a person to identify what’s important to them in an effort to make sense of their belief system. Once this is established a person can utilize their faith/spirituality more effectively in their healing journey.
